Piano and Saxophone Tuition
Julie A. Carver-Ward Ph.D., LTCL.
Welcome to my website!
To introduce myself briefly, I'm a semi-professional musician with more than 38 years experience in teaching music to both children and adults. My most recent experience was teaching pianoforte and saxophone in China and Israel, as well as performing my repertoire of the Fortepiano works of Franz Joseph Haydn, as interpreted by Ronald Brautigam, the true master of Fortepiano. My highly successful teaching technique is based upon the Suzuki method, utilizing the same abilities we engage for learning a language - because music IS a language. Over the years I have modified the Suzuki technique to render it accessible for all ages. There are many detailed scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating that musical education from an early age enhances the intellectual ability, as well as the creative ability, of children. Furthermore, early education in piano technique enables a child to readily learn almost any other musical instrument. Over the years I have learned to embrace the emergence of electronic and digital instruments. I am somewhat unique amongst piano teachers in that I do not refuse to teach students if they don't own an acoustic piano. For reasons why, please click on the page entitled "pianos". The digital age is here to stay and we should encourage the creativity that is induced by learning to master digital instruments.
