Tuition Fees & Scheduling
My standard fee for tuition is $35 per hour.
Lessons are conducted at the student's place of choice - with acoustic piano (and organ) students, this should be in their home environment (all acoustic pianos are not created equal!). For portable electronic/digital pianos and saxophones, the student can choose to come to my home studio if they so desire (and are within a reasonable commute of Porter's Lake).
I also offer blocks of 10 lessons at a 10% discount.
I'm really not comfortable running 30 minute lessons - often recapping and warm-up can take this long, and I have found that very little can be accomplished in such a short period. Further, I like to split the lesson into two sessions for absolute beginners - the first session concentrating on music theory and relationship to the instrument; the second session focussing on playing the instrument. Obviously the balance changes as the student becomes more familiar with the rudiments of reading music and finding their way around the instrument.
I am generally available for tuition between the hours of 10 am and 8 pm every day (including Sundays and Holidays).
Sometimes it is necessary to cancel and reschedule a lesson, especially during the winter months when road and traffic conditions are hazardous. I try to give as much notice as possible, but sometimes inclement weather can arise in a matter of hours, so rescheduling will be at the earliest convenience for the student. Similarly, I ask students to notify me as early as possible if problems arise - 24 hours is rather unreasonable for some circumstances, so I make my cellphone number available to students for use if an emergency arises.
